Wrap up of the week/summer

Pages read: 5118
Pages read this week: 950
Books read: 13
I admit defeat...I did not read as much as I wanted to but that's all right, I got to my 5000 pages mark! SO....  I have a crap load of books to review.  The Bout of Books (8.0) was good and there is another one in January.  Lets begin (this is going to be a long post...)

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson 4.6/5
This book was an incredible telling of what happened at the Chicago worlds fair in the 1890's, along side the true story of the serial killer H.H. Holmes.  In this book there are two stories circulating and revolving around each other but never truly touching.  The book starts out with how the World's Fair was picked to be in Chicago and the how builders were chosen.  The first few chapters also introduce the mysterious doctor H.H. Holmes who begins to build a small empire within a matter of months.  I was immediately drawn into the characters and the plot it was a brilliant book!

The Lord of Opium by Nancy Farmer 3.6/5
This highly anticipated sequel to the House of the Scorpion was amazing and brilliant but this time in a different way. It begins with Matt trying to figure out how he is going to deal with the responsibility of running the warring drug country.   While his side of the country, Opium, is under lock a Government Official named Esperanza believes that Opium is the key to saving the dying planet.  This sends Matt into a sort of madness to live up to the expectations of others while staying true to himself and not becoming like the man he was cloned after.

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness 4/5
In the beginning of the book I did not expect to like it as much as I did at the end! So it starts off with Todd the main character finding a hole in what is called the noise.  In the town Todd is raised in there is no privacy, everyone can hear each others thoughts which makes them a little crazy... and there are no women.  So he tries to keep this to himself but his parents send him away from the town to try and make it to safety because the knowledge that he has could save/destroy the town.  While on his journey he comes across the recent crash sight of a ship were there seems to only one survivor, a girl.  The news of Todd's disappearance sends the town into a panic because Todd is the last to become a man (turn 13) and they do not want him to learn the truth about what happened to all the women.  The only place deemed "safe" in this world is the sanctuary, a mythical place that the towns people will stop Todd from getting to at all costs.  The book seemed to grab the reader in and not want to let go...There are so many other details but...Spoilers....

Books I still need to read:
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman pg.3
Incarceron by Catherine Fisher pg.55
The Diviners by Libba Bray pg. 1

Books needed to read by December 31, for the Bucket List challenge:
My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christoper Collier
The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B White
Game of Thrones by Martin George R.R (currently reading but on an Ereader so...)
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan
City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare
The Host by Stephenie Meyer
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

Books I am currently reading:
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April G. Tucholke pg. 126
The Paladin Prophecy by Mark Frost (finished as of this morning)
Rag and Bones by various authors
Midsummers Night's Scream by R.L.Stein
Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin 25%

And if that is not enough then I have some books that I recently go that need to be read within the next 3 years:
Frozen by Melissa De La Cruz and Michael Johnston
Taken by Erin Bowman
Blythewood by Carol Goodman

So the next time I post the page count will go back to zero (but not the book count) and I will see how many pages I will be able to read until the new year and If I can finish all the books on that list...I will write the current page total of the summer (5118) on my wrist until the new year then it will be the total from the beginning of September etc...etc...And I will have a running total on the board of awesomeness in my room...Until next time...

So I just finished The Devil In The White City by Erik Larson and it was amazing! It was a hard read that had many heavy elements, but it was captivating and now I have to my summer reading project on it...I challenged my friend Will over at http://thenerdoutreview.blogspot.com/ to see which one of us can read the most amount of pages and he invited me to start writing posts! So from time to time I will write about the things that I am nerding/geeking out about.  Next book up The Lord of Opium by Nancy Farmer! *At the end of the week I will do a rap up and have a review for all of the books that I have read during the read-athon.

I'm back from my trip! Unfortunatly I did not read all that much and I told my brother to update the blog and he didn't.  I will soon be done with a bunch of books and have the reviews up this week.  My brother and I will be doing reading sprints this week and the rest of the weeks before school starts because I have about 10 books to read and a bunch of projects to go along with 2 of them.  I will do a rap up of the summer in about 2 weeks but until them what is the best book that you have read?
